Red Planet Mars

Written: 1980

Writers: David Jenneson, Alan Hovden

Status: Unrecorded and unpublished.

Genre and Style: MegaDeath Rock

Comments: Dave: Delightfully filled with 1950’s paranoia, Red Planet Mars is a flight of dark fancy about a monstrous Martian king who dwells deep beneath the red sands with his vast armies, and whose favorite dish is human flesh. Now you know there’s a link between all those flying saucer reports and all those missing person reports. It’s a good reason not to go out alone after dark. It is the kind of song that Megadeath might do today.

Comments: Al: Another song in which we were way ahead of our time. This could be done by any number of new bands on the scene today that want to scare their fans to death and send them racing to pull their covers over their face and hide!

Like a fairytale

Finally we sail to red planet Mars

They all said we’d find it dead,

No trees, no cars.

But deep below those endless miles

Of blood red sand

They’ve got cities, they’ve got armies

And they’ve got plans

And they’ve got hunger for sweet red human meat

Deep underground the marching sound

Of Martian feet

Red!

Red red red!

Red Planet Mars

Hiding like a monster in the stars.

Red!

World of the dead

Red planet Mars.

Loud voices ring

Hail to the King of Red Planet Mars.

His face is split forehead to lip by a white scar

Our astronauts in a cage for his next meal

The flying saucers spill more humans at his feet

Now you know why they hunt our skies

Those Martian creeps.

Red!

Red red red!

Red Planet Mars

Hiding like a monster in the stars.

Red!

World of the dead

Red planet Mars.
