Television
Written: 1983
Writers: Peter Sinclair
Status: Recorded and published by Terry Jacks
Genre and Style: Pop
Comments: Dave: Television shows Peter Sinclair’s genius for creating haunting, dark catchy songs that reflect the pop culture. Although Terry Jacks recorded it he could never match Peter’s eerie demo of a young, isolated man stuck watching late night TV in his apartment because he has nothing else to do. One can almost feel the spooky blue eye of the television poking into the dark room at 3 AM while some poor wretch watches with red eyes, hypnotized, unable to tear himself away.
Comments: Al: This was my favourite of Pete’s songs that he wrote for Terry Jacks.
Television, television, television
Television, television, television
Television
I always watch it when I’m lonely
Makes my house feel kind of homey
From a satellite in space
Pictures beam down to my place.
Oooh, oooh watching my TV
You don’t know what it does to me
Oooh, oooh watching my TV
You don’t know what it does to me
Television, television
Television, television
When I watch a late night movie
My remote control beside me
From a satellite in space
I fall in love with a video face
Oooh, oooh watching my TV
You don’t know what it does to me
Oooh, oooh watching my TV
You don’t know what it does to me
I turn on the late show
There’s no place to go
I watch until my eyes are red
Then I drag myself to bed
Oooh, oooh watching my TV
You don’t know what it does to me
Oooh, oooh watching my TV
You don’t know what it does to me
Television, television
Television, television
