Get on the Right Side of Love

Written: 1975

Writers: David Jenneson, Alan Hovden

Status: Recorded but unpublished

Genre and Style: Funk rock

Comments: Dave: Get on the Right Side of Love is simple and catchy with a great guitar hook. Even though it lacks lyrical direction, if it had received radio airplay people would be humming it after one listen. However I’ve always imagined it being played in a black night club by James Brown with five female back up singers and a full horn section. It is a song that testifies.

Comments: Al: We weren’t R and B players (Pete had some experience and played a mean wah-wah pedal) but somehow pulled this one off.

Get on the right side of love

Let it show you what to do, yeah

Say those words I’m thinking

And I’ll give my heart to you, babe

When I feel that honey loving hand

Gonna love my man

Till I got him saying ooo yeah

Don’t try and make me try to love you

Why oh why do you think I’m being cruel?

It’s not as if you’ll break my heart

You didn’t have one from the start

Did you babe?

All you had was diamond rings

Gonna give a little give a little

Good advice to you babe

Get on the right side of love

Let it show you what to do

Say those words I’m thinking of

And I’ll give my heart to you, babe

When I feel that honey loving hand

Makes me wanna love my man

And suddenly you’ll realize

That your life comes down from the vine of loving

And diamonds just a dime a dozen

I walk out on the stage and sing

If got a good crowd, gonna shake that thing

For you babe

All those jerks who line the bar

I see their eyes all lined with stars

I knew it

Oooh it makes me shake my head

Gonna give a little, give a little

Good advice to you babe.
