Lady Be

Written: 1973

Writers: David Jenneson, Peter Sinclair

Status: Recorded but unpublished

Genre and Style: Country pop ballad.

Comments: Dave: Lady Be is an extremely simple song with a very memorable melody. The arrangement manages to have only two verses of two lines each – everything else is repeated and in this case it only makes the song stronger. It has a lyrical elegance which just enigmatic enough to keep it interesting. Though it was written over thirty years ago it has a timeless quality of a standard. Even today the almost any artist could do very well by it.

Comments: Al: This was when I realized what a great songwriter Pete was… I was always jealous of this song and wish I had written it… a beauty Pete!

Lady be

Lady be

Lady be kind to me

Lady be

Lady be

Lady be kind to me

Down in New Orleans

The water’s not so clean

But we could live a life of ease

We could find

Peace of mind

Oh lady, be my lady,

Lady please

Lady be

Lady be

Lady be kind to me

Lady be

Lady be

Lady be kind to me

You know the story well,

You end it as you please,

For we can live a life of ease

We can find

Peace of mind

Oh lady, be my lady,

Lady please.

Lady be

Lady be

Lady be kind to me

Lady be

Lady be

Lady be kind to me

La la la la la la la la oooh la

La la la la la oooh.
